My Approach to Hypnotherapy

I believe in focusing on the present to help you move forward. We won't dive into past traumas unless it helps us see the way ahead more clearly. Instead, we’ll look at the beliefs, feelings, and thoughts that are holding you back right now. These can be tough to spot on your own because they often become automatic over time. Together, we’ll identify these patterns, challenge them, and replace them with positive ones, helping you make meaningful changes in all areas of your life.

The most common concern about hypnotherapy I hear, is the fear of losing control or being "under," but in reality, hypnosis is a natural state of focused relaxation where you're always in control. At New Leaf Therapy, hypnotherapy helps you visualise and rehearse the positive behaviors you wish to achieve, and these same exercises can be used without hypnosis, bu just using your imagination.

Building Long-term Resilience Together

My aim is to give you the tools you need to create lasting change and build confidence in handling future challenges. By learning new ways to respond to difficulties, you'll develop resilience that supports your long-term well-being.

A Warm and Collaborative Process

Think of hypnotherapy as a partnership between us. I bring my skills and experience to guide you, but your role is just as important. Be open, honest, and engaged, and feel free to ask any questions. Together, we’ll form a strong working alliance to make your sessions as effective as possible.

Before we begin, let's have a quick, no-cost chat over the phone or GoogleMeet. This helps me understand your current situation and what you want to work on, and it gives us a chance to get to know each other. You can ask me anything, and we’ll make sure we’re a good fit.

The number of sessions you'll need varies for everyone, from as few as two to as many as ten. We'll typically meet weekly, and I’ll give you some tasks (homework) to help you progress between sessions.

I’m here to support you with warmth, empathy, and no judgment. Let’s work together to create positive change in your life

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?

First Session

Our journey begins with an initial consultation to understand the specific aspect of your life you would like to work on, and how they impact your life.  We'll discuss your goals and any previous experiences with therapy or self-help techniques. This helps me tailor a treatment plan that suits your unique needs.

To allow me to formulate that initial treatment plan, we will also complete consultation forms, carry out any evaluations for specific cases (phobia, stress, insomnia, menopause), and take a medical history including information about any ongoing treatment and medications.  We will also look at a brief chronology of your life and its main events.

Following Sessions

We always start with a review of the previous week -  how are you progressing and how did you get on with homework tasks.  We also talk about any obstacles to your progress.  This allows us to review and develop your treatment plan, ensuring it fits your developing needs.  We will also talk about goals for the week ahead and practice activities and tasks that you can do between sessions to help embed new techniques you have learnt.

Final Session

When we have reached the goals we agreed upon, we will review all of the tools you have learn thus far to help prevent a relapse.  We will go through each of the techniques we have worked on and ensure you understand how they are used and how they may  be transferable to to other areas of your life.

Maintenance Session

Sometimes, clients like to schedule a session 2-3 months after their initial treatment plan - this is a super way to ensure you consolidate those new skills to the fullest, discuss any hurdles you may have come up against and perhaps develop techniques.

The Collaborative Process

My approach is collaborative, meaning we’ll work together as a team. Your active participation is crucial for achieving the best results. Here’s how we’ll collaborate:

Duration and Frequency of Sessions

The number of sessions required varies based on your individual goals and progress. Typically, sessions are held weekly at the beginning to maintain momentum and provide consistent support. As you progress, we may adjust the frequency of sessions accordingly. Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes.  Most clients see solid improvements within in 4-6 sessions (with active participation in homework).   Hypnotherapy and CBT is a powerful therapy that allows swift progress.
